Darkest Dark

The Darkest Dark is an exhibition showcasing the copper plate intaglio printmaking process, a historically significant printmaking technique that began around the 15th century. The show brings together nine Hong Kong based printmakers working with the technique. The title of the show ‘The Darkest Dark’ draws reference from the deep black tone that can be acquired through this medium, artists were asked to explore, respond and interpret the title in their own way.

In response to The Darkest Dark, the artists have explored and translated their ideas within the medium by employing mezzotint, aquatint, dry-point, etching, photo etching and Chine-collé. Presenting works with a range of thought-provoking impressions from poetic explorations of loss to narrative based illustrative works referencing daily life, imagination, politics, classical and contemporary popular culture.

This exhibition marks the inaugural event and aims to be a starting point to promote printmaking to the Hong Kong and international community while fostering a creative environment where artists can share and exchange knowledge, ideas and techniques in the future.
