The Sea Keeps Burning

"Look! The sea is burning."

Fire incinerates, while the sea endures. Fireworks are still being set off as waves continue to ebb and flow. They counter each other from sunrise to moonset, and until apocalypse. Even when absurdity occurs every day, the world carries on as usual.

Sadness, pain, anxiety and anger are probably what we have experienced collectively over the past months. Lucky are those who can put their emotions in words unambiguously, because most people are filled with inexplicable thoughts and involuntary silence.

We hope art can be our visual vocabulary, enabling us to describe current loss more accurately and to document a restlessness which could not be told. Viewers may find resonance in works, and use the words of others to recall parts they failed to describe. If sad people listen to sad songs, may the exhibition be what the city needs at this moment in time.
